New York, NY., April 1, 2023 – The Sciolytix Sales Hiring Index (SSHI) decreased from 72.1 in March to 67.6 in April 2023. The SSHI measures relative demand for full-time sales talent in the US over the last 30 days through new sales job postings on Zip Recruiter, Indeed, LinkedIn, and Glassdoor.
The decrease of 4.5 points suggests demand for salespeople softened over the past 30 days. The broad-based SSHI fell 4.5 points to 62.3, while the B2B-SSHI fell 4.6 points to 99.5.
B2B Sales Hiring Remains Steady
B2B sales hiring has been incredibly resilient, despite news of several high-profile layoffs. The current B2B-SSHI at 99.5 is only a half point lower than when the index started in August 2022.
There are currently nearly 115,000 full-time B2B sales job openings in the US on LinkedIn and Glassdoor.
According to the website, www.layoffs.fyi 483 tech companies laid off 128,202 employees in 2023. Google, Meta (Facebook), and Amazon have all announced layoffs of over 10,000 employees, which makes headlines. However, these companies are massive, and the percentage laid off is a small portion of their workforce. Furthermore, only a tiny percentage of these layoffs are salespeople.
According to Dario Priolo, Sciolytix Chief Marketing Officer and creator of the SSHI, “Business leaders should not overreact to layoff announcements they read about in the news. However, in the current economic environment, businesses that can screen, hire and onboard the best salespeople better and faster gain a clear advantage.”
