Sciolytix B2B Sales Hiring Index for July Up 3.3 Points to 104.6

New York, NY., July 1, 2023 – The Sciolytix Sales Hiring Index (SSHI) decreased from 64.8 in June to 64.0 in July 2023. The SSHI measures relative demand for full-time sales talent in the US over the last 30 days through new sales job postings on Zip Recruiter, Indeed, LinkedIn, and Glassdoor. 

The decrease of 0.8 points suggests demand for salespeople softened over the past 30 days. The broad-based SSHI fell 1.4 points to 57.2, while the B2B-SSHI increased 3.3 points to 104.6. 

B2B Sales Hiring On the Upswing

B2B sales hiring has been incredibly resilient, despite news of several high-profile layoffs. The current B2B-SSHI at 104.6 is 4.6 points higher than when the index started in August 2022. 

There are over 120,000 full-time B2B sales job openings in the US on LinkedIn and Glassdoor. 

According to the website layoffs.fyi, this year 809 tech companies have announced layoffs of 211,400 people. This includes 98 companies and 10,480 employees in June. However, these layoffs include employees across all roles. The current demand for B2B salespeople far exceeds the number laid off last month.

Generative AI Presents New Challenges and Opportunities

According to experts and recent reports, generative AI technology such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and related AI models have the potential to replace various jobs, including clerical, secretarial, media and creative industries roles, as well as white-collar jobs such as writers, computer programmers, and accountants. 

However, it is important to note that analysts also predict that AI will create new jobs while eliminating old ones. And, it’s critical to apply human judgement to these technologies to avoid error and bias, and view them as productivity-enhancing tools rather than complete replacements.
