Sciolytix Sales Hiring Index for March Up 6.9 Points to 72.1   

New York, NY., March 1, 2023 – The Sciolytix Sales Hiring Index (SSHI) increased from 65.2 in February to 72.1 in March 2023. The SSHI measures relative demand for full-time sales talent in the US over the last 30 days through new sales job postings on Zip Recruiter, Indeed, LinkedIn, and Glassdoor. 

The increase of 6.9 points is the most significant monthly gain since starting the index in August 2022. The increase in the SSHI suggests demand for salespeople increased over the past 30 days. The broad-based SSHI grew 6.3 points to 66.8, while the B2B-SSHI grew 10.2 points to 104.1. 

Surprising Results Give Several High-profile Layoff Announcements in Big Tech

The sharp increase in B2B sales job postings is surprising, given headlines about big layoffs at companies like Google, Microsoft, Twitter, Amazon, and Salesforce.com. 

According to the website www.layoffs.fyi, 428 tech companies laid off 129,342 employees in 2023. However, according to tech industry association CompTIA, the U.S. tech industry accounts for about 8.9 million people in the total workforce. Although layoffs can be stressful to those impacted, 2023 layoffs amount to less than 1.5% of the tech workforce.
